Professor Fonagy’s Independent Review into mental health conditions, ADHD and autism.
A young person’s need for help should be enough to start getting support.
The independent review into mental health conditions, ADHD and autism offers a promising direction: support shaped around people’s needs, without making them wait for a diagnosis before help can begin.
As CEO of Beyond, I welcome that ambition. It reflects the work we do every day.
Beyond meets urgent mental health needs of young people through our Schools’ Programme – facilitating access to fully funded provision from our network of approved local services.
Our digital platform Now & Beyond addresses prevention by centralising youth approved mental health lesson materials to help teachers deliver quality mental health education.
At all stages, our work is underpinned by the insights of our wonderful Youth Board.
Our purpose is simple: we must get the most effective support to young people at the right time.
Diagnosis can be life-changing, and timely access to assessment matters. But young people also need help while they wait.
We’re a small grassroots charity with big ambitions. We know the difference that funding and access to local expertise can make. We want every young person to benefit from support that responds when their needs emerge.
This review is a promising step. Now we need funding, clear accountability and action to turn its recommendations into support young people can actually access.
