Like a precariously balanced domino that urgently needs stabilising, we are on the precipice of a major disaster.
Mental health support services for children and young people are struggling to meet the weight of demand due to a lack of funding and sustainable government strategy.
CAMHS is stretched. Schools are overwhelmed. Teachers, key workers and the medical community are underresourced. The system isn’t working.
Beyond is a youth mental health charity that exists to improve young people’s mental health in the UK.
Beyond’s long term goal is to revolutionise the mental health system, but with the return to school and Covid anxiety greater than ever, now is the moment to brake the current trajectory. We have to urgently raise £500,000 to provide schools, desperate for mental health support, the funds to bring in the right services.
Inspiring youth mental health activists are the soul of the charity and make up Beyond’s youth board. These 30+ campaigners co-produce everything that Beyond does, ensuring that youth voices are at the heart of the charity’s activities.
Beyond’s youth board are all united by personal lived experience of mental ill health.
From suicide, psychosis, schizophrenia or borderline personality disorder to depression, anxiety, childhood trauma, neurodiversity and a spectrum of other mental health challenges, they draw strength from each other and turn it into powerful campaign work. From championing mental health days in schools to reframing the way the UK addresses grief education, the youth board are the drivers of the charity.
World-renowned British photographer, Rankin, joined forces with Beyond to photograph some of our youth board to help raise awareness of our campaign and to raise critical funds.
